What Should Photographers Wear on a Photoshoot? 10 Styling Tips for Confident Shoots

Have you ever seen a photographer who, well, just didn’t look put together - The type of photographer who puts out the vibe that since their the one behind the camera, they don’t have to worry about how they look in front of the camera? Not a good look, is it? What types of questions start to go through a client’s head when this is the impression they receive from a potential photographer: “How is someone who dresses like that going to photograph our wedding?” “Can you imagine what their studio or office must look like?” One thing may not seem to have anything o do with the other but unfortunately, that’s not the way our minds work. What we do or the way we appear in one instance, influences how we are perceived in all instances. That’s just human nature.

In this episode we literally of from head to toe, hair to shoes in discussing what should photographers wear on a photoshoot remembering that our clothing has to be functional, comfortable, and give us flexibility while appropriate for there setting in which we’ll be working whether that’s a studio or a weeding venue. we also have to blend in and avoid drawing attentions to ourselves.

{3.16} But honestly, it looked like he had dragged this designated wedding suit out of his closet, the suit and the shirt were wrinkled, and his hair looked disheveled. And you know, I just I just thought, I know I can be overly picky. But I don't think that when a couple or when a client meets a potential photographer for their event or for their photo shoot, they should have to put in a request that the photographer look appropriate for the event.

{5:05} The number one goal and dressing for a photoshoot has got to be functionality. Wearing clothes that speaks to your purpose as a photographer.

{8:37} Dress appropriately for the encounter, whether it's an in person consultation, whether it's an actual shoot, or even if it's a zoom call, where appropriate well fitting comfortable clothing that falls more toward casual professional than stuffy, but retains a sense of professionalism and that you care about your appearance.
